Gooooooooood Morning Vietnam!
All right, it's the middle of the afternoon, but we finally made it to Danang. The trip started easy enough with a 2.5 hr flight to Chicago, then a 16 hr flight to Tokyo. Then it started to get crazy, as only slept for an hr the night before, I forgot to tell United to transfer our bags to JAL (so that the bags were checked through to Saigon) As a result, we had 2hrs to pick up our checked bags, get through customs and immigration, switch terminals (no easy task at Narita) and check-in with JAL.
We managed to get to the JAL counter about 45 min before takeoff. Unfortunately, they could not find our reservation. Turns out we were booked through Vietnam Airlines, code sharing on JAL. Fortunately, the figured this out (I must say, JAL's customer service is AMAZING!). We then got the VIP treatment as a possie of JAL staff escorted us through security and immigration so that we could make the flight!
After 24hrs of traveling, we finally land in Saigon, unfortunately, our ride was no where to be seen. On top of that, I forgot what hotel we were staying at. Fortunately, the airport had free WIFI (yes, it's free in most places here). We overpaid and made it to the hotel at 1am. We were starving, so we wandered into Saigon. We found some Pho, had a tiger beer, then hit the sack at 2AM... woke up at 7 AM, got to the airport, flew to Danang, and here we are!
Finally, a chance to relax. We checked into our rooms, went for an hour long foot and leg massage ($12), and sipped on some coffee while waiting for Tony and Becky.
As for Tony and Becky, their flights went off without a hitch. Were all together now!!!!
Time for dinner, beers, Ambien, and Melatonian. More tomorrow!
